for direct negotiations do you think we could see direct negotiations any time soon with chuck hagel in the ministration well if he i think that that former senator hagel has taken courageous positions on iran on a range of issues and i admire them and respect them and the concern i have is that he is being nominated for the wrong job to carry out those positions his defense secretary if he is or if he is if he's approved to be as defense secretary he will not be the person in charge of creating or implementing strategies of iran or any other foreign policy issue. he will be he will be at the defensive. i mean doing quintessentially defense secretary things in this environment which is to cut the budget and try to keep the united states out of another war now that peace try to keep the united states out of another war could have impact here but the problem is he what he could potentially try to keep united states out of another war without being able to either to offer a vision for another way to deal with this challenge the islamic republic poses a real challenge for the united stat

the one we may face within months. >> i know chuck hagel and know him well. i know he's going to sit down and he's going to do exactly what peter said. he's going to come out with a plan. he's going to communicate with the soldiers in the field. he's going to remind them he was a sergeant, too, and he is going to implement the president's policy of shifting out of the wars we're engaged in now and sorting out other priorities. i think my estimate of this is that he's going to dom out with a very, very good and confident looking strategy for the military and its priorities and how to responsibly handle what likely are to be sizable cuts. so he's going to owe it, but people in the gop are saying that he's going to have to reinvent their relationship with them. i think it's the other way around. i grew up in oklahoma. my parents are in texas. these places have bases, defense contractors. now, hagel will be judicious. he's not going to hold anything against them, but their constituents are going to want -- can you talk to chuck hagel about our base? i don't know

hagel of course knowing the position chuck hagel had taken before was also seen as a message president obama had said previously that there is too much war talk going on and maybe by nominating chuck hagel he wanted to play down because too many people here in washington are too eager to talk war and just during the confirmation hearing the word war was mentioned one hundred twenty times the word iran one hundred eight times by comparison of ghana's than the war that the u.s. is fighting right now just twenty six mentions of course those are just words but they may very well. show how eager many meeting in washington are to discuss new wars without even having to finish the old ones. there are some people out there saying that being a republican was a nominate for the post by obama so that obama down the road can blame him as a republican if indeed foreign policy doesn't it will see its best of times and certainly the theories around the guy nature can in washington d.c. thanks very much indeed. now the british government's programme of cuts has resulted in a drastic drop in the number

has chuck hagel ever given a speech to cobra? or for that matter cobra kai? has he received donations from the lollipop guild? [laughter] what are his ties to the dead poet's society? and why are they dead? did they know too much about benghazi? [laughter] president obama, withdraw hagel's nomination, or you will lose the support of moderate republicans, another group that doesn't exist. [cheers and applause] folks, my favorite thing about sports is stadiums named after corporations. it's win-win. the teams get money, and the corporations get advertising that really works. i mean, going to coors field makes me crave the silver bullet. and any time i go to see the patriots play at gillette stadium, i'm as hairless as a newborn mole rat. [laughter] but i was especially pumped about the latest company to get in on the stadium naming action. >> after more than two years florida atlantic university's football stadium has a name. >> it's named after a prison company. >>it will be called geo group stadium after get this the nation's largest operator of for profit pr

it was this really ham handed fake effort to look like liberals were opposing chuck hagel, but nobody believed them and they stayed anonymous and never came out of the closet and said who they were. so no opposition on the democratic side of the aisle. no opposition on the left, except for the fake thing. and that means that the republicans would have to do something historically unprecedentsed and truly radical if they are going to stop chuck hagel's nomination. filibusters a cabinet nominee? unprecedented in modern times. now, they might try it. but it will be a huge deal if they did. a huge enough deal that it might even finally prompt the democrats to change the filibuster rules. so it's not likely. now, if you are looking for a high profile national security obama second term nominee who really might have some interesting opposition, who really might have some opposition from the democratic side, if not even from the left, it's not chuck hagel. obviously, it's not john kerry. the guy you are looking for is the one who is up this week. on thursday of this week, president obama's n
